Doors

My mind was a box with 4 walls until you. I knew my place. I saw my limits. I knew that space and all the shoulds that lived there with me. I sometimes stood still in the dull light in the corner and licked the paint. Most days I circled that space like a trapped feline. Most nights I gave up and tried to dream a way out. Then you. How did you get in here with me? You asked me what was behind all the doors in my little box. You said don’t you want to know?

Doors? I had never noticed the doors. I walked over and pushed on the one nearest to me and stood there frozen as it opened. You peeked over my shoulder with a smile, eager for me to see. I was stunned to see door after door after door. Room after room after room. Sunlight shining in from endless windows. You said let’s go through together and see what we find. That is when I knew my life would never be the same.
